Theme of the Week: The Strength of Friendship
Hello everyone,
On Monday, I shared what it meant for me to cry in front of two close friends during my cancer recovery. For much of my life, I believed that being strong meant managing difficult situations on my own. Opening up to them challenged that belief.
When I finally allowed myself to be vulnerable, my friends showed me that they were capable of holding what I was going through.
Those moments also created greater trust between us. Once I opened up, they began sharing parts of their own lives with me. The friendships became stronger and more authentic.
This Weekend’s Practice
Take five minutes and think of one friend who supported you during a difficult or uncertain time.
Notice what you remember most about that time, whether it was something they said, something they did, or simply the fact that they were present.
Now, think about how you can carry forward what you experienced and learned from your friends’ support and offer that same kind of care to someone else in the future.
Ask yourself:
Here’s an interesting fact: research has found that strong friendships are linked to better mental and physical health, and people with supportive social connections tend to live longer than those who feel isolated.
Friendship is not only about sharing good times; it is also about showing up when life is difficult. This weekend, take a moment to appreciate the friends who have supported you and consider how you can offer that same care to someone else.
Stay strong, even when you are not. It's okay, you are not alone.
With love always,
Michael Argyrides
